Three Degrees Of Style / Rihanna’s Diamond World Tour 2013 Looks

Standard

As a fashion Icon, Rihanna has always fascinated me, more so than any other celeb.  I decided to get to my design desk and design a few looks that I feel she would love for her “Diamond World Tour, later this year. Wether going to black tie events to promote the tour, or actually on the stage, I wanted to design assorted looks that spanned the spectrum of potential fashion looks for this hugely fabulous poster.  February 2011, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, Rihanna released a single called S&M. The video opens with a sequence showing the singer wearing a dress emblazoned with the words “whore” and “slut” while trapped against a wall by layers of clingfilm. Later, shots of her wearing white latex stockings and suspenders, and brandishing a riding crop are cut with footage where she is prone on the floor, wiggling energetically against the pink rope which binds her hands and feet.
There was quite a furore – this being back in the days before Fifty Shades of Grey had sold 20 million copies. Eleven countries banned the video. Meanwhile, fans jammed arena switchboards worldwide securing tickets to her tour. The following month, she became the youngest black woman to appear on the cover of American Vogue; by the autumn she added British Vogue to her covers, this time dressed as Marilyn Monroe. When Time placed her in its 100 Most Influential list this year, Stella McCartney penned an article in praise of her talent and style. On her Facebook page, 116,541 people have “liked” one album of photos labelled “Hawaii vaca”, the aesthetic of which can be summed up as a DIY Sports Illustrated, with more catwalk references. When River Island announced this week that it has signed Rihanna to design a collection that will go on sale on the British high street early next year, the news was acknowledged as a huge coup for the store.
Rihanna’s wardrobe is the most talked-about, influential and dissected in pop right now. Beyoncé is mostly accessorised with a baby sling; Lady Gaga has spun off into high-concept theatrics; Katy Perry these days looks like she has wandered off the set of The Muppets. But what Rihanna wears – whether it is red hair, studded cut-off denims, electric blue sunglasses or a new look in nail art – is immediately reproduced on the high street, because it sells.
The Rihanna of 2012 is unrecognisable from the cookie-cutter R&B pop princess who emerged in 2004. Back then she was standard-issue urban-sexy in low-riding jeans, crop tops, tonged hair, hooped earrings; for evening, much the same but with diamante and tighter jeans. But in 2007, the year of her single Umbrella, everything changed. Her hair was dyed black and chopped into an asymmetric bob. In red carpet photos from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice awards that year, you can see the evolution in progress: she is wearing a pretty, multicoloured silk dress, but with a black leather corset belt over the top, and a fashiony front-row scowl instead of a teenybop smile. By 2008, she was rocking chainmail corsets at black tie events, power-shouldered jumpsuits for day and leather hotpants on stage.
“Everytime we write about Rihanna – her nails, clothes, makeup or hair – our traffic goes through the roof,” says Carrie Tyler, editor of elleuk.com. “She is a figurehead for gutsy, confident fashion choices. Women are fascinated by her because she takes the risks that her fans would like to take themselves. She’s got a beautiful, curvy figure but it’s her confidence that appeals as much as her body.”

Fashions That Are Hot – My Looks For Grammy’s 2012 Styling 101 Volume 2#

Standard

The Grammy’s were all over the place, fashion wise. From Kate Perry and her blue-berry cottoncandy inspired hair, to Nicki Minaj’s “Little Red Riding Hood Gone Awry ” look, there were many ‘chance taking’ looks, but many were not executed correctly, leaving the individual just looking silly. I realize that the Grammy’s were last week, and most of what happen during that event has faded from folks memories,(or at least we wish the memories would fade FASTER), but I want to offer a few looks. One of the few winners of style was Rihanna, her simple black dress with a plunging neckline, as well as a plunging back area, was oh so sexy and beautiful to behold. The kind of girl I would have dressed for the Grammy’s would be like Rihanna, a risk taker, willing to “stand-out” on the red carpet.  I would decide to stay with a black, dark grey, and charcoal palette, as these colors slim the figure wonderfully. Look One consist of an Asymmetrical gathered drape dress. The Grecian silhouette is so feminine, and forgiving to any problems in the tummy and love-handle area. I would couple that with a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti sandals with delicate crystal detailing. I love texture, when styling is such a mono palette, so I would offer accessories that would draw in the eye. Exotic animal skinned accessories are always hot, and add a touch of luxury and daring to any outfit. A Reed Krakoff Grey Python T-Bar cuff accented with a poly hard python printed clutch would do the trick. This look is very feminine, sheik, but I would want to break it up a bit. For the girl that loves this look, but wants to accent her waist, I would add a Alaia Fridge Waist belt. This small accent completely changes the whole silhouette, from soft and feminine, to more edgier, still elegant. The Second look is full of DRAMA with a capital D, mish-mashed with accessories and details that are not for the “fashion faint of heart”. I love the original grecian dress, but in this look, it’s transformed into a rather form-fitting tunic, coupled with a pair of Notify Bamboo 75 Cracked-leather pants. Notice how the core of the look, the dress, has now transformed, into an “alter-ego” of its initial aesthetic. The draped dress, soft and feminine, has now transformed into a draped top, still feminine, but edgier. To make this look even more edgier, I propose the Kali Belt, a belt that is fabricated using soft leather, torn, and accented with metal details. Accessories are just as textured,  such as the  Goti Multi-Strand necklace. This necklace consist of twisted strands of silver mesh, black pearls, and leather details, flowing back to the aesthetic of the Kali belt, effortlessly. On the wrist, a Balenciaga Twin-Link Leather and Metal Bracelet. This look has so much visual drama, I decided on simple sexy strappy high heeled sandals, Alexander McQueen Satin T-Bar sandals would do beautifully. Finishing touches, its a simple one, an ironic, but lovely Anne Demeulemeester ‘Flower Sirio’ Brooch, on the right shoulder of the top, to break up the draped area a bit. The final look is very daring, sexy, screaming to me seen, touched, and talked about.

Rihanna is throwing her red wig into a reality show based in the U.K.

Ok,..this is a continuation of the blog about global pop-star, Rihanna taking on a reality-based show about designing a few looks for her up coming show in the U.K. Now, let me start out by saying that I am a STARVING designer, talented, but starving. (my cat eats better than I do), so any opportunity that comes up, I am going to “milk it” till the nipples either fall off, or simply go dry. Hence my little venture, last night, into “Rihanna-land”. Like millions in the world, I adore Rihanna’s music, but most of all I adore her “don’t like it, then suck it” attitude. Its the way I have lived my life, with fabulous results, (until this recession hit me with a deafening THUD ). Anyways, Reality show about fashion + hungry fashion designer with fat cat = Golden Opportunity to get my skills out there to the world. I love Rihann’s take on fashion, she wears what makes her look great. Her outfits during her performances,…well are skimpy to say the least, but ONLY she could get away wearing what looks like a bra and panties made from candy hearts, ( oh so sweet ). I wanted to design a few looks that were simple, but yet very sexy, and taaaaa-daaaa, knit matte jersey came to mind, and then the color,..black ofcourse!!!! ( so NYC ). The two looks are draped “for the gods”, but allowing super comfort, with a little drama in the front. The second looks is low ( and I mean low) cut, to show a little cleavage, but overall a simple but sexy look. Now pair these looks with an exotic clutch, and a pair of “show-stopping” Lou’s,…and you have a winner. I hope Rihanna sees this, and for when she does, ” heeyyyyyy Rihanna, my fat cat loves “dancing” to your ” Only Girl ” single. and so do I.  I think he is gay, just like his daddy,…just say’in”
